Course information

Military academy students pretending to be in command centre Our Military and Protective Services (MaPS) Academy provides the ultimate preparation for a career in the armed forces, emergency and rescue services, the fire, police, ambulance, UK border force as well as, non-uniformed roles, civil service,
voluntary or private security sector.

We offer two options for you to start your studies in the military and protective services depending on your GCSE results. On completion our Level 3 course offers you the choice of university study or employment. Our Level 2 course is ideal if you would like more time to develop your skills before progressing on to Level 3.

This one-year course offers you an insight into, and understanding of, the entry requirements for the military and protective services. Gain a wide variety of skills and knowledge from a range of units related to protective and military service. You will undertake practical military training and education in order to equip you with the necessary skills to enable you to make decisions on which service to apply for and to prepare you in all respects for initial selection.

Interview preparation, fitness testing and psychometric testing, preparing you with the knowledge and skills to succeed in your basic training.

Entry requirements for external applicants and school leavers
• Three or more GCSEs at Grade 3 or above, or successful completion of a relevant Level 1 qualification.

Entry requirements for existing learners with the Cornwall College Group
• Successful completion of previous course and, where relevant, progress in maths and/or English.

GCSEs at grade 3 in English and Maths, or relevant Level 1 Functional Skills

As part of your course you may be required to carry out Work Experience and/or an Industry Placement.

After completing this course you will be mentored through the selection process for you chosen career or be ready for further study on our Entry to the Uniformed Services Diploma Level 3

The historic Georgian mansion, commercial farm, animal husbandry school, modern veterinary nursing building, world-class engineering and heavy plant machinery workshop, walled garden and arboretum are all set in over 200 hectares of historic parkland.
