Course information

You will gain the practical skills and knowledge that are important for working as a Dog Grooming Assistant.

Practical sections include Washing, drying, clipping, coat management skills and interacting with customers.

Theory section includes knowing some legislation, risk assessments, being able to identify certain Ecto and endo parasites.

On completing the course, you could go on to work for a business or franchise, and it could be based in a salon or a mobile unit. You could also progress to further learning and training in this area, to be a Dog Groomer and onto 7863-03 Level 3 Diploma in Dog Grooming

• Preparing and grooming dogs prior to bathing
• Bathing of dogs
• Drying dogs and preparing a dog for styling
• Carrying out trimming of a dog’s coat to prepare for styling
• Moving and lifting dogs
• Maintaining the cleanliness and biosecurity of the dog grooming environment
• Professional conduct
• An introduction to anatomical features, breed characteristics and behavior of dogs
• Theory sessions will be held Mondays 13:30-16:30

5 Practical Assessments which include, washing, drying, nail clipping, ear cleaning, clipping a wool mix coat, and trim a natural finish on a silky coat. There are some question and answer sections, and finally a multiple choice test (1 and half hours)

Once you have successfully completed this qualification, you could go on to study Level 3 Diploma in Dog Grooming (7863-03).
