Course information

A practical-based qualification to improve the horticultural skills needed for career development to supervisory or management roles, or to further develop your interest. This course is ideal if you are self employed within horticulture and would like a formal qualification.

to have completed the RHS level 2 practical certificate, have an equivalent qualification or have relevant experience.

In order to achieve this qualification, learners must complete and attain:

• Online Competence Assessment Test
• Practical Competence Assessment Test
• Professional discussion

1. Online competency assessment
• 75 minutes long
• Can be taken at the centre or at home using our remote invigilation software
• The pass mark for the online competency assessment is 50%
• In overall terms, the online test represents 35% of the overall marks for the qualification, with the practical competence assessments representing 65% of the total marks available

2. Practical competence assessment
This is the main opportunity for learners to demonstrate their practical skills and is assessed by an RHS External Examiner at Bicton College.

• Assessments will take place at appropriate points during the programme
• The assessments will require the learner to demonstrate around 3 – 5 skills appropriate to Level 3
• Learners will be presented with written instructions on the day of the assessment

3. Professional discussion
This is a one-hour on-line discussion with an RHS examiner to test your background knowledge and to discuss the findings of your research project

You may wish to consider a HNC/HND/BSc in Horticulture at Eden Project Learning, where you can study plant science or garden design.
