Course information

You will gain the practical skills and knowledge that are important for working as a Dog Grooming Assistant.

Practical sections include Washing, drying, clipping, coat management skills and interacting with customers.

Theory section includes knowing some legislation, risk assessments, being able to identify certain Ecto and endo parasites.

On completing the course, you could go on to work for a business or franchise, and it could be based in a salon or a mobile unit. You could also progress to further learning and training in this area, to be a Dog Groomer and onto 7863-03 Level 3 Diploma in Dog Grooming

This course will last a total of 3 weeks split into 2. starting on Monday 16th February to and including Friday 20th February (Half term week)

Then recommencing on Tuesday 7th April 2026 to and including Friday 17th April 2026 (Easter end of term 2 weeks – please note that we are closed on bank holiday Monday 6th April 2026)

How to be a dog grooming assistant in the dog grooming industry. Covering dog grooming, customer service, theory sessions on parasites, legislation, and kennel club breeds to name a few.

We encourage course applicants to attend the Introduction to dog grooming course which starts on Monday 2nd February, then either Tuesday 3rd February or Wednesday 4th February, Monday 9th February, then either Tuesday 10th February or Wednesday 11th February,

We do encourage learners to attain voluntary or paid work experience in dog grooming studio in between the block weeks.

There will be practical assessments towards the end of the course – which include; nail clipping, wash & drying dogs, completing a natural trim and clipping the coat.

Once you have achieved level ; City & Guilds allow you to go enrol on the City & Guilds Level 3 Diploma in Dog Grooming. This is a pre requisite for Level 3.
