Setting the bar high at Bicton’s International Horse Trials

A member of teaching team from Bicton College, part of The Cornwall College Group (TCCG), has been chosen to take on the esteemed role of Course Builder for last weekend’s highly anticipated equestrian event.

The renowned International Horse Trials at Bicton Arena drew talented riders from around the world, some who had previously showcased their skills on the Olympic stage, and are aiming for a spot at the upcoming Paris 2024 Olympics.

Kay Simpson, curriculum area manager in foundation learning, a dedicated and passionate equestrian enthusiast, was handpicked as the Course Builder.

Her duties and responsibilities included, designing and constructing a course that would truly test the skills and abilities of the competitors.

With a keen eye for detail, she carefully selected the arrangement of fences the riders would have to navigate, considering the technical demands, aesthetic appeal and safety of each obstacle.

With her dedication, first-hand experience, and expertise in British eventing competitions and Show Jumping, Kay embarked on her role as Course Builder, bringing a unique perspective to the challenges that lay ahead.

“It was a surreal experience witnessing some of the world’s top equestrians conquer the course I had designed,” Kay expressed.

As each rider tackled her meticulously crafted course, she observed their skills and strategies in action, knowing that she had played a pivotal role in shaping this competitive environment.

Kay’s contribution to the International Horse Trials at Bicton was a testament to her dedication and expertise as a Course Builder.
