College student fetches 1st prize at Crufts qualifier

A student from Bicton College has emerged victorious in the 18-24 Young Kennel Club Clip, Snip and Trim Grooming category qualifier at the prestigious Crufts event.

Kathryn Sellick, studying Level 3 Dog Grooming, produced an award-winning “puppy trim” for her poodle puppy, Bueno.

She also entered the Club’s Handling qualifier with her pup, securing a tail-waggling 2nd place.

The national competition showcased the exceptional talent and skill of dog grooming enthusiasts, and Kathryn’s outstanding performance has brought both pride and recognition to Bicton College, part of The Cornwall College Group (TCCG).

Commenting on her success, Kathryn said: “I’m so proud of this achievement and grateful for how Bicton College has prepared me for this remarkable moment on a national stage. Coming first in the ‘Clip, Snip and Trim’ Grooming category qualifier and second in the ‘Handling’ qualifier has given me more confidence in my skills and talent.”

Having completed her Level 2 certificate for Dog Grooming Assistant at the College, Kathryn has recently started her own grooming business.

For Dog Grooming Programme Manager, Tristan Emmett, this is “a great example of how Bicton College empowers students for success.”

He added: “As a College, we are incredibly impressed with Kathryn’s success and strive to create bespoke learning environment, ensuring each student is equipped with the best knowledge and training to take lead in their careers with pedigree of excellence.”
