Introduction to Equine Bodywork Workshops
The workshops are a consecutive series to develop knowledge around the musculoskeletal system of a horse to enhance horses well-being.
Each workshop has a theme that follows a logical sequence, covering the key points to aid anyone interested in bodywork or looking to upskill, or enter the equine industry.
Certificates of attendance will be issued for each workshop. Attendance of consecutive workshops is recommended, but not essential.

What you will learn
Workshop 1 - 24/02/2024
- Basic anatomy of locomotory system both static and dynamic
- How to assess the horse and observe imbalances and areas of potential discomfort or restrictions
- Hands on assessment of joint range of motion (ROM) within the stable
- Putting the picture together, what does that mean for your horse?
Workshop 2 - 23/03/2024
- The benefit and science behind stable based exercises for the horse
- Practical application to improve well-being
- Behavioural observations to assess and aid progress
- How to assess the physical benefits to the horse
Workshop 3 - 15/06/2024
- The benefit and science behind massage
- Behavioural observations to assess effectiveness
- Practical applications of massage techniques
- Holistic approach to improving horse’s well-being
Entry requirements
Basic horse handling skills
Basic knowledge of anatomy and physiology of the horse

Bicton College is based in East Devon, near Exeter, and set in an Area of Outstanding Natural Beauty, just two miles from the Jurassic Coast. The historic Georgian mansion, commercial farm, animal husbandry school, modern veterinary nursing building, world-class engineering and heavy plant machinery workshop, walled garden and arboretum are all set in over 200 hectares of historic parkland.
