Course information

This course is a follow on programme for students that have successfully completed the Level 3 Advanced Technical diploma in agriculture (540). The course builds on the knowledge and skills developed in that programme, extending deeper into areas of agricultural production and management, ideal for those looking for a career in agricultural management or the allied industries.

This Level 3 is an advanced level programme equivalent to A levels, providing UCAS points and progression opportunities to university undergraduate programmes.

This one year course builds on the work that you have completed in the Level 3 Advanced Technical Diploma in Agriculture (540). We will examine the management of specific enterprises such as dairy and sheep in greater detail and take a deeper look at animal physiology, health and nutrition and its links to production efficiency. Farm business management is taken on a step allowing you to apply your skills and knowledge to develop business plans and diversification opportunities using real case studies.

The completion of an independent research project allows you to focus on an area of interest and develop research, data collection, data analysis and report writing skills.

Further livestock and mechanical practical skills such as ATV and Forklift truck operation and maintenance will be included within the programme.

Entry requirements for external applicants and school leavers
• Four or more GCSEs at Grade 4 or above including English and/or Maths, or successful completion of a relevant Level 2 qualification.
• Functional Skills Level 2 in English and/or Maths will be considered as alternatives to GCSE, but a GCSE resit may be required depending on grade.

Entry requirements for existing learners with the Cornwall College Group
• Successful completion of previous course and maths and/or English at GCSE Grade 4 or Functional Skills Level 2.

Successful completion of Level 3 Advanced Technical Diploma in Agriculture (540) and a Work placement

You will need to undertake an Industrial placement of 315 Hours

You will be assessed by a range of methods including one written exam, practical observations and written assignments during the duration of the programme.

Success at level 3 means that not only will have a good grasp of the practical skills and knowledge required in the agricultural industry, a sound understanding of the underlying scientific principles of soils, crop and livestock production but also a firm grasp of the fundamentals of business planning and management. You can use your skills to progress to a foundation or undergraduate degree level programme in a linked subject area or enter employment on farm or within the allied industries.
