Course information

Planting and Propagation Courses This course focuses on the productive garden.

We will be looking at growing cut flowers, herbs, top fruit (apples and pears), a range of soft fruit and perennial and annual vegetables.

We will cover propagation, soil preparation, planting, seasonal maintenance, and common pests and diseases.

It will be based around Bicton’s Walled Garden and glasshouses.

PPE:
You will need to wear steel toecap boots, walking or work trousers (no jeans) and a Bicton College polo shirt. You may also want to bring gardening gloves.

Growing and propagating herbs
Growing cut flowers
Pruning small apple trees and cordon fruit
Care and pruning of a range of soft fruit
Growing plants from seed and cuttings
Fruit and vegetable growing

Anyone interested in developing their gardening skills, plant propagation and growing a range of crops.

PPE:
You will need to wear steel toecap boots, walking or work trousers (no jeans) and a Bicton College polo shirt. You may also want to bring gardening gloves.

The course is assessed through a series of practical skills tests.

To successfully complete the course, you will need to achieve 18 credits. Each assessment is worth between 2-3 credits.

You can progress to the RHS level 2 certificate, or NCFE L2 Garden and Planting Design.
