Course information

This is an ideal qualification for entry into horticultural employment, improving practical skills or further study. It covers a wide range of horticultural topics and up-to-date working practices. This is an appropriate course for someone looking for a career change or to gain a better knowledge

Complete all of the following:
Soil testing
Sowing seeds and vegetative propagation techniques
Practical skills in ground preparation for seeding and planting
Practical skills in establishing seeds and plants in soil
Care and pruning of plants
Identification of a range of common garden plants, weeds, pests, diseases and disorders and beneficial organisms

You won't need any formal qualifications to enrol, but you must be enthusiastic about plants.

You will need to complete the 2 practical exams including a plant identification test and an on-line theory test. This will involve some research and an element of homework.

Students who have completed this course go onto RHS Level 2 Theory Certificates and RHS Level 3 Practical Certificate.

Some students choose to go into employment as self employed gardeners and work for other organisations in a gardening role. This could include working in garden centres and plant nurseries.
