Senior Equine Groom Apprenticeship
This Level 3 apprenticeship will help you prepare for a more supervisory role, which could include planning horses’ diet, nutrition and health plans. During the course you will learn how to promote and maintain the health and well-being of horses, prepare horses for work, maintain their health and well-being during transportation and consider health and safety.
Apprenticeships allow you to work while gaining a nationally recognised qualification at the same time, so why not combine your love of horses with earning money.

What you will learn
This apprenticeship will help you prepare for a more supervisory role.
During the course you will learn how to promote and maintain the health and well-being of horses, prepare horses for work, maintain their health and well-being during transportation and ensure your own actions reduce risks to health and safety.
Entry requirements
A passion for horses and the ability to demonstrate enthusiasm and a strong determination to succeed. You will need to have completed the Equine Groom Apprenticeship Level 2 or have competence experience in the equine industry.
GCSEs in English language and maths at grade 4 or above or equivalent Level 2 functional skills in English and maths. To start this apprenticeship, you will need to have a work placement on a suitable yard and be employed on a 30-hours a week contract.
Assessment
At the end of the apprenticeship, you will need to undertake an End Point Assessment (EPA) in your Yard.
The first assessment will consist of a multiple-choice and long answered questions followed by practical observation where the examiner will examine you on the yard and access your practical skills.
Finally, you will have a professional discussion with an external assessor that will determine the knowledge and behaviour that you learned during the apprenticeship. Your portfolio will be reviewed as evidence of your skills and knowledge. After the assessment, you will receive your grade. – Fail, Pass or Distinction.
Progression
Continue working in the industry using your skills and expertise or university study such as our FdSc Equitation, Training & Behaviour or our FdSc Equine Enterprise Management*.

The historic Georgian mansion, commercial farm, animal husbandry school, modern veterinary nursing building, world-class engineering and heavy plant machinery workshop, walled garden and arboretum are all set in over 200 hectares of historic parkland.
