Foundation Learning Works Pathway: Pathway 2 Employment (P2E) Stage 1

Foundation learning students gaining practical skills and experience Looking to work? The FL Works Pathway develops and prepares you for employment.

You may study this pathway in 2 stages. Pathway to Employment Stage 1 and Pathway to Employment Stage 2 (Supported Internship).

Pathway to Employment Stage 1:

This course helps you on your journey towards the world of work. You will develop a range of employability skills, gaining work and community experiences through activities on campus and the local area. Your course will be a blend of practical and classroom-based learning; including an internal work placement.

This Pathway is offered at different campuses. The work experiences on offer are specific to the campus you choose to study at, where you will benefit from being taught be a range of highly-skilled professionals.

The course involves three days in College; one of which will be an internal work placement, and two days in the classroom.

Our vision is to support you to be INDEPENDENT, CONFIDENT AND RESILIENT so that you are well-prepared to engage with the wider community. The Pathway 2 Employment course and experiences within it, will most certainly help you to develop in these areas, working towards your chosen aspiration and progression.

What you will learn

At Bicton College you will develop a range of employment based skills and work on areas such as; teamwork, communication, confidence, leadership and supervisory skills. The campus provides a range of internal employment based placement opportunities, for the duration of your course, both in land-based industries and beyond.

Entry requirements

To access this course you will need to have evidence of additional learning needs such as an EHC Plan. You will complete initial assessments to establish if you are suitable for the course and what level of study may be suitable for you.

Assessment

Assessment will be ongoing throughout the academic year and could be practical, written or oral. Many of our assessments are available ‘on demand’ and you will be prepared by specialist teachers for these in order to support your achievement

During this course you will work towards an employability qualification, covering key elements such as exploring different career options, interview techniques and CV writing to become work ready. You will also develop your English and mathematics. You should expect to carry out up to one day supported community action, or one day supported college work placement per week.

Progression

On successful completion of this course you may to progress within the Foundation Learning Work Pathway to a Supported Internship. You may be ready to take up an apprenticeship or gain paid employment. We will work with you to help you achieve to your full potential.

Bicton College is based in East Devon, near Exeter, and set in an Area of Outstanding Natural Beauty, just two miles from the Jurassic Coast. The historic Georgian mansion, commercial farm, animal husbandry school, modern veterinary nursing building, world-class engineering and heavy plant machinery workshop, walled garden and arboretum are all set in over 200 hectares of historic parkland.
