This course is ideally suited if you want to progress into a career in the land-based industry with a specific focus on balancing agricultural production and management systems with landscape management in line with potential future environmental policies.

Rural land management is changing, with the removal of the Basic Payment Scheme and a heightened focus on the environment, the pressure is on land owners to evolve with a particular focus on sustainability. In a changing landscape, there is a real need for qualified professionals with a specialism in agricultural land management who can provide robust advice to land owners to help them to diversify, but also increase production in a way which compliments biodiversity and conservation.

This course is designed to bring together knowledge about rural land management, considering ecology, biodiversity and the environment alongside. A Strong and diverse range of topics and integrated work experience ensure that graduates are well equipped to progress into careers such as rural land management and farm advice.

Bicton College has strong relationships with many partners including Clinton Devon Estates, the Pebblebed Heaths Conservation Trust and the Lower Otter Restoration Project as well as organisations such as the Bat Conservation Trust, Devon Wildlife Trust and East Devon AONB. We are also lucky to boast the Cornwall College Rural Business School as a part of the College group which is at the forefront of rural research and works with leading partners on a number of exciting projects.

Students will also have the opportunity to complete industry recognised relevant qualifications alongside your course.

Delivery will include:
• lectures, workshops, seminars, tutorials, distance learning and field practical work as appropriate for the module topic and context.
• You will have the opportunity to join industry partners to experience real-life land management in various contexts to enhance your learning.
• Guest lecturers and offsite visits will be included where possible to bring additionality to the programme and enable you to hear from industry experts and provide networking opportunities.
• You will also have the opportunity to join National study tours.

Entry requirements

• 64 UCAS points from AS and A-Levels or relevant level 3 qualification, ie BTEC National Diploma / BTEC Extended Diploma - MPP Grades required).
• Access to HE Diplomas in a relevant subject - 45 credits at level 3 with at least 30 credits at Pass and 15 credits at Merit in an appropriate subject
• Minimum grade C/grade 4 in English and Maths
• Mature applicants with relevant experience but without standard qualifications will also be considered individually at interview.

Bicton College is based in East Devon, near Exeter, and set in an Area of Outstanding Natural Beauty, just two miles from the Jurassic Coast. The historic Georgian mansion, commercial farm, animal husbandry school, modern veterinary nursing building, world-class engineering and heavy plant machinery workshop, walled garden and arboretum are all set in over 200 hectares of historic parkland.
