An Introduction to Equine Behaviour – Online
This course is suitable for horse owners wishing to learn about horse behaviour and how to apply that knowledge.
You will learn about the basics of reading and understanding the behaviours that horses display and why so that you can improve your relationship with you horse/s.
Equine behaviour is complex and humans often misinterpret what their horse is telling them and miscommunicate which can cause conflict and stress.
What you will learn
Throughout this course, students will learn how to recognise different behaviours in horses and how they can impact the horse-human relationship. Often horse owners miscommunicate with horses, keeping instructions clear is important to avoid conflict and cause fear or unwanted behaviours. We will explore the underlying causes of behavioural issues and how we may resolve them.
This course will cover:
• What is equine behaviour
• Stress and fear
• Learning behaviour
• Putting theory into practice
• Understanding ridden horse behaviour
• Understanding horse behaviour on the ground
This course is online, you will be provided access for 2 weeks, during this time you can access the course in your own time and work through the material. You will recieve a certificate of achievement at the end.

Bicton College is based in East Devon, near Exeter, and set in an Area of Outstanding Natural Beauty, just two miles from the Jurassic Coast. The historic Georgian mansion, commercial farm, animal husbandry school, modern veterinary nursing building, world-class engineering and heavy plant machinery workshop, walled garden and arboretum are all set in over 200 hectares of historic parkland.
